Summarize this article with:

There are two waterfall walks in Khao Sok and this is the serious one. Where Bang Hua Raet ends the unguided stretch about 3 km from the park office, the Ton Kloi hike keeps going: a full day of rainforest with a guide, on trails that get muddy, rooty and slow.

It is the right choice if you want to feel the park rather than tick off a sight. It is the wrong choice if you want a short morning walk or a guaranteed swimming spot: the enjoyment is in the walking, the forest and the quiet, and the park never promises wildlife.

Why a guide is not optional here

The park draws the line at Bang Hua Raet: walkers can go that far alone, and everything longer is guided. It is not a formality. Trails beyond that point branch, cross the river and disappear under regrowth after a storm, and the guides are the ones who know which crossing is passable.

Guides are booked in Khao Sok village, either at the park or through the agencies on the main road, and they set the pace with the group. Prices are a matter for the operator; as an order of magnitude, a guided day in the park is quoted around 1,200 to 1,500 THB per person.

Ton Kloi or Bang Hua Raet?

Take Bang Hua Raet if you have half a day, no booking and your own pace. Take Ton Kloi if you want distance, mud and a full day inside the forest and you are willing to pay for a guide and follow a group.

Both are land-side walks from the village, and neither has anything to do with Cheow Lan Lake, which is a separate zone about 65 to 67 km away. If you only have one day in Khao Sok, the lake usually wins; if you have two, put the hike first.

Plan the day around the mud, not the photo

Ton Kloi is a hiking day: start early, carry water, wear shoes you do not mind losing to the mud, and expect leeches in the wet months. The waterfall is the goal, but the walk is the point — and after heavy rain your guide may change the route for safety.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. It lies beyond the stretch the park allows walkers to cover alone, and all long trails in Khao Sok are guided. Guides are booked in the village.

It is a full day on uneven, often muddy rainforest trail with river crossings: walking, not climbing, but demanding in heat and humidity. The pace is set by the group and the guide.

January to April, when the trails are firmest. In the rainy months the route is muddier, leeches are common and the park can close or reroute trails on safety grounds.
